June 10: NCBA recommends changes to the Beef Checkoff Program
Of all the matters debated at the 2008 Cattle Industry Annual Convention, the Beef Checkoff Program topped the list.  Roughly 20 state cattlemen’s associations brought forward recommendations to create NCBA policy enhancing the 20-year-old program.  We have more in this week’s Cattlemen’s Capitol Concerns.

Apr. 22: USDA Issues a Draft of the National Animal ID System
USDA has issued a draft business plan to further implement the National Animal Identification System.  The agency feels that the system can be a valuable tool for addressing animal health emergencies and can help livestock producers establish eligibility for several voluntary marketing programs.  For more information from USDA visit: www.usda.gov/nais.

Cattle producers from across the nation are gathering in Washington, D.C., this week for the NCBA Spring Legislative Conference.  As cattlemen meet with their representatives on Capitol Hill the new Farm Bill is high on the list of priorities.
