Watch: Cattlemen to Cattlemen Week 7; Original Air Date: March 20, 2007

This week’s episode of NCBA’s Cattlemen to Cattlemen airs Tuesday, March 20 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern on RFD-TV. Repeats can be seen Wednesday, March 21 at 4:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 24 at 10:00 a.m. (all times Eastern). Or you can watch the episode right here, using the link above.

In this week’s program, James Link, head of USDA’s Grain Inspection Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) discusses the recently-released report on alternative marketing arrangements for livestock. After examining transactions involving 58 million cattle between 2002 and 2005, the GIPSA report found that these arrangements offer many benefits for livestock producers, but have little impact on the cash market. For more information on the report, visit: www.gipsa.usda.gov.

Andy Gottschalk, senior vice president with R.J. O’Brien and Associates and owner of HedgersEdge.com also offers his perspective on alternative marketing agreements. Gottschalk says these agreements offer far greater incentive to produce high-quality cattle than did the average pricing system used in past eras. For more thoughts from Gottschalk, visit: www.HedgersEdge.com.

Follow Texas cattleman Ernie Morales to Capitol Hill to testify to a U.S. House Agriculture Subcommittee on the impact of rising grain prices on the livestock industry.

The Cattle Learning Center explores two very diverse topics:

Bull Health: Veterinary experts from Pfizer Animal Health show you the benefits of conducting a breeding soundness exam prior to breeding season. A regular exam can help maintain quality and productivity in your herd. For more on this topic, visit these sites:

Estate Planning: NCBA has worked for years for full and permanent repeal of the Death Tax, and those efforts continue in 2007. But until the Death Tax is finally put to rest for good, you might help ease your tax burden through proper estate planning. Cattlemen to Cattlemen looks at this issue through the eyes of the Cannon family at Goodson Ranch near Blackwell, Oklahoma.

And this week’s Center of the Plate segment examines the success of The Healthy Beef Cookbook. Learn how the team at NCBA’s Beef and Veal Culinary Center tested and developed recipes for this very successful project, and the cookbook’s role in promoting healthy beef dishes. Learn more about The Healthy Beef Cookbook at www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com.
