Watch Cattlemen to Cattlemen Week 25: Original Air Date July 24, 2007:
This week’s edition of NCBA’s Cattlemen to Cattlemen honors cattle operations that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to environmental protection and preservation. For more information on cattlemen’s environmental efforts across the nation, visit www.beefusa.org/esap.
First, we take you on a tour of the award-winning Lightsey Cattle Company, located near Lake Wales, Florida. The Lightsey family raises cattle, citrus and timber, while also preserving a unique and magnificent environment.
Next, Cattlemen to Cattlemen heads west to the Work Ranch near San Miguel, California. George and Elaine Work operate this 12,000-acre cow/calf and stocker operation, which also includes trail rides, guided hunts, and a girls’ horse camp. Work Family Farms has drawn widespread praise for its efforts to enhance wildlife habitat.
Then we’ll take you to the sandhills of Nebraska, where the Kelly family has operated the Buckboard Ranch for 117 years. Michael and Cynthia Kelly brief Cattlemen to Cattlemen on some of the practices they use in this unique and fragile ranching environment.
Just a little farther west - near LaGrange, Wyoming – we visit the Thaler Land and Livestock Company. The Thaler family earned the 2007 National Environmental Stewardship Award for its commitment to improving preserving rangeland on their own property, as well as land they lease from the State of Wyoming.
You’ll also learn about the 2007 Ranch Stewardship LIVE Tour, which may be headed to a location near you. Visit www.RanchStewardshipLive.com or call 817-594-9996 for more information on this exciting and educational event.
