Watch Cattlemen to Cattlemen Week 20: Original Air Date June 19, 2007:

This week’s edition of NCBA’s Cattlemen to Cattlemen offers a collection of the Cattle Learning Center segments from Fort Dodge Animal Health.

First, Dr. Bill Clymer of Fort Dodge Animal Health joins reporter Todd McCartney to discuss the benefits of de-worming. Dr. Clymer explains that while fall is traditionally the most common time of year for de-worming, a spring de-worming program can often offer ranchers greater benefit, and a better return on investment. He also discusses the benefits of dung beetles for controlling horn flies and other parasites on a farm or ranch, and for improving pasture conditions. Visit the Texas A&M University Field Guide for more information.

Next, Todd is joined by Dr. Kenton Morgan, a professional services veterinarian with Fort Dodge Animal Health to discuss prevention of reproductive diseases. Dr. Morgan explains the importance of implementing an effective vaccination program, selecting healthy replacement heifers, and other important tips for maintaining strong herd health and preventing spread of these potentially devastating diseases. Visit Fort Dodge Animal Health for more information.

Horses are important to the success of many farms and ranches – and a significant investment, too. So keeping your horses healthy is a top priority. Dr. Tom Lenz, also a Fort Dodge Animal Health veterinarian, joins Jeff Medders of the America’s Horse television program to show us the importance of a thorough horse wellness exam. Proper vaccinations - as well as monitoring your horse’s dental health, posture, and gait - are also important factors for maintaining good horse health. For more horse health tips, visit American Association of Equine Practitioners or Fort Dodge Animal Health.
