Watch Cattlemen to Cattlemen Week 10; Original Air Date: Tuesday, April 10, 2007

In this week’s episode of NCBA’s Cattlemen to Cattlemen: USDA’s Prospecting Plantings Report says 12 million additional corn acres are expected this year. Does that really mean good news for cattle producers, or is it too early to tell?

The United States is moving forward on a free trade agreement with South Korea. Hear why NCBA is withholding support for the agreement, unless Korea genuinely opens its market to U.S. beef exports.

SPRING CONFERENCE RECAP:

The NCBA Spring Legislative Conference was highlighted by a speech from President George W. Bush. President Bush focused on several issues critical to the cattle industry, including trade, taxes and the 2007 Farm Bill. You’ll hear more from the President in a special edition of Cattlemen to Cattlemen next week.

How do cattle producers prepare for Spring Conference? Cattlemen to Cattlemen joins Nebraska cattleman Jay Wolf as he prepares for his trip to Washington, D.C.  As current president of the Nebraska Cattlemen, Wolf juggles a busy state and national association agenda with his duties at Wagonhammer Cattle Co. in north-central Nebraska.

Capitol Hill visits are always a big part of the Spring Conference. We follow the Florida, California, and Arkansas delegations as they meet with their members of Congress about taxes, environmental regulations, urban sprawl, and other issues affecting their bottom line. For more on the NCBA Spring Legislative Conference, visit www.beefusa.org.

Cattlemen to Cattlemen also goes one-on-one with Natural Resource Conservation Service chief Arlen Lancaster, who explains how the NRCS can assist farmers and ranchers with conservation efforts. Lancaster focuses on the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and other important functions of the NRCS. Learn more about NRCS by visiting www.nrcs.usda.gov, and find out more about the EQIP program at www.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/eqip/.
